Arna’s Glass has been in the making since I first learnt the craft of stained glass at the age of 12. At 19, I picked it up again, and have continued creating with glass ever since.
Being raised in rural Northland, my work is primarily influenced by my love for native flora and fauna.
Just recently, I’ve decided to take the plunge to turn my passion and hobby into my livelihood. Today, I work from my home studio on the outskirts of Whangarei.
I fell in love with casting quite some time ago and over the past few years have been developing my skills and techniques in this medium. I thoroughly enjoy the challenges of creating 3d pieces.
All my designs are original and unique. Drawing an original design is a challenging part of the process for me, as it’s important to get the composition and scale correct. I can come back to a design multiple times before being happy to convert into glass.
Being a creative person I am always making something and often picking up new hobbies. I started using my son’s discarded bicycle innertube to craft earrings for gifts. They have proved to be popular and now I love to see friends and strangers alike wearing them.
Making a conscientious effort to re-duce, re-use and re-purpose is essential in reducing our footprint on Earth. And I love that I get to give glass and innertube an enchanting second life within my craft.
